Program Introduction

H.I.R.M is an essential segment of modern health care system. It is a science of healing and art of caring. It pertains to the clinical examination, evaluation, assessment, diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal, Neurological, Cardio-Vascular, Respiratory and functional disorders based on movement, manual therapy, physical agents and therapeutic modalities to relieve pain and other complications.

The H.I.R.M is a 5 years graduate degree conferred upon successful completion of duration. This degree program includes foundation courses, such as anatomy, physiology, histology, exercise physiology, neuroscience, biomechanics, pharmacology, pathology, and radiology/imaging, along with behavioral science courses, evidence-based practice and clinical reasoning. In capstone college of physical therapy degree program the students also study the clinically-based courses include medical screening, examination tests and measures, diagnostic process, therapeutic interventions, outcomes assessment, and practice management.

Program Objective

Following are the objectives of the program:

  • The objective of  Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program is to provide innovative, patient-oriented health care system.
  • It will equip a person to become a physical therapist, helping patients with physical difficulties arising from illness, injury, disability or ageing.
  • Physical Therapists promote health and wellbeing and assist rehabilitation by developing body systems – in particular the neuromuscular, musculoskeletal, cardiovascular and respiratory systems.
  • DPT (Doctor of Physical Therapy) is an integral part of an inter professional health care team and serves as the entry-point into the health care system with a concomitant responsibility to collaborate and consult with other health care professionals, patients, caregivers, and the community.
  • Purpose of DPT Program is to interact with a complex and diverse society in a compassionate, humanistic, professional, and sensitive way.
  • A Doctor of Physical Therapy has a responsibility to understand how a physical therapist’s clinical decision-making interacts with the ethical/fiscal management of the setting within which they work while also advocating for patients and for the greater good of society.

Goal of DPT Program is to optimize an individual’s ability to function within society by addressing prevention, wellness and rehabilitation across the lifespan and in a variety of settings.

Infrastructure

Bright, spacious and air-conditioned classrooms equipped with necessary teaching/learning aids and comfortable seats, makes easier assimilation of preferred material.

Campus of HIRM is fully equipped with state of the art and modern, Anatomy, Physiology, Kinesiology and Electrotherapy laboratories, where the students can experiment, improve their skills and verify the theoretical knowledge.

The computer labs are modern comprising of Core i5, Micro Computers/Work Stations, Powerful Server, a variety of application software and internet access for faculty and students as well.

The library is stocked with a rich collection of latest editions of text books and reference books, along with reference compact laser discs for students, covering a wide range of subjects. The library also has internet access.

The institute has subscription to a large number of newspapers, magazines and periodicals. The library staff is committed to support the students in the usage of the library.

LECTURE HALLS: Adequate numbers of spacious, well-ventilated, well-lit Lecture halls with comfortable seating arrangements are available.

LABORATORIES: Institute has well ventilated and well equipped Laboratories, which are regularly updated with advanced equipment. 

The following Labs are available for student’s practice as per the HEC requirement fulfilling criteria:

  • Medical Physics

The theoretical components are well linked with practical inputs. Regular demonstrations in the labs provide a strong foundation and enhance learning.

HOSTEL: The rooms are well ventilated and well furnished. Facilities are available for reading and recreation. Hygienic food is served in the dining hall. Qualified wardens take care of the students. Wardens provide special attention to the students in time of sickness.

Scope of Practice

Physical Therapy is an integral part of health and community/wellness service delivery systems. Physical Therapist practice independently of other health service providers and also collaboratively in interdisciplinary rehabilitation program that aim to prevent movement disorders or to maintain optimal function and quality of life for people with movement disorders. Physical Therapy is carried out in a variety of settings, that enable it to achieve its purpose Prevention, health promotion, treatment/intervention, Rehabilitation take place in several settings, which can include, but are not limited to:

  • Community based rehabilitation programs
  • Fitness clubs, health clubs, gymnasia and spas
